Give Hope, Give Opportunity to Succeed.

Dear Friend:

Do you know that there are over 145,000 blind and low vision individuals in the Bay Area?

For more than 70 years, Lions Center for the Blind has provided quality one-on-one training throughout nine Bay Area counties and now throughout the State.

Each year we equip more than 3500 people with skills to live independently and participate in their communities. These are our friends and our neighbors, our coworkers and our family members. But we need your help to continue to provide the training that will allow people to live, work, and travel; and allow people like Valeria to travel with greater confidence, knowledge and skill.

Last year we told you Valeria's story, a fourth grader who is Lions Center's youngest client. Valeria has a hereditary eye condition known as cone-rod dystrophy that limits her visual acuity and peripheral vision and also causes night blindness. Through our one-to-one training in Orientation and Mobility, Valeria has learned to cross streets safely, and locate addresses all on her own.

Valeria is looking forward to learning to use maps to find new parks to explore, and she cannot wait for a mobility lesson at the zoo. That's why we need your help!

Over the past year Lions Center has graduated 25 individuals from our statewide employment training. One of our graduates, Jennifer Holloway, manages TouchWorks, a social enterprise program created to access and equip businesses, restaurants and non-profits with text overlay/braille embossed documents, menus, maps, business cards and much more. TouchWorks' special contribution to our clients is the opportunity to build their business acumen. Students learn program development, outreach, and phone etiquette, scheduling, running print jobs, and delivering on orders; skills they will take with them to the workforce.

By contributing to Lions Center, you can change the lives of individuals like Valeria, Jennifer and so many others. With your support, people who are blind and low vision can develop and regain the skills they need to flourish. Your gift will help individuals acquire skills to live, travel and work independently.

Your donation to LCB will make a world of difference as we continue our mission to help the blind and visually impaired community.

Sincerely,
