Exploring New Horizons 44th Anniversary

Hello ENH (that means outdoor education naturalists and staff, summer camp staff, and summer campers)!

Can you believe it??!?? ENH is a whole 44 years old!! Yes, that means some of us are old too. Yes, we were adorable back in the day. And yes, we are going to have some serious fun reminiscing and telling tall tales.

The details:

Where - YMCA Camp Loma Mar; 9900 Pescadero Creek Road, Pescadero, CA (this was where ENH had its largest outdoor school 1981- 2020)

When - Friday, April 14 (after 3pm) - Sunday, April 16 (until noon when we have to vacate camp, but additional fun can be organized off-site)

Facilities - cabins with bunk beds, that sleep up to 12 each; one cabin with wheelchair access (has a bathroom inside); all other bathing facilities are in separate bath houses; singles, couples, and families are welcome - just no critters; bring campers, RV’s and tents/camping equipment to stay on site too; check list below for other off-site options

Activities are flexible, as all of us will have lots of catching up to do and tall tales to tell.

Daytime options include hikes to some of the legendary haunts known to the outdoor education staff (big redwoods, Mt. Ellen, Pescadero Marsh … to name a few). You'll get to organize your own expeditions. Bag lunches will be provided. You can also hang around camp which has a big dining hall, lawn area, baseball diamond, creek to play in, and forests to explore.

Friday night festivities include slide shows and photo sharing.

The Banana Slug String Band will be performing on Saturday afternoon at 4:15

The “Mother of All Campfires” open mic planned for Saturday night.

Other fun bits -
• Trivia contests at each meal (bring your favorite ENH-related fun fact or torrid story)
• Help create a time line of ENH history from pre-ENH (mid 70’s) through today! Categories: Years you were there / ENH sites / big events / perks of the program / pains in the pants
• Re-create classic photos - bring your old shots and recreate the faces in the photos; prize for the best recreation
• Memento table - photos, ENH-related items, brochures, flyers, memorabilia, who knows? Just bring it!

More info will come after you register!

Schedule -
Friday: arrival and move in (any time after 3:00 pm). Snacks provided (bring your own dinner) and other evening fun.
Saturday: breakfast (8:30-9:30), lunch (12-1 or bag lunch), dinner (5:30-6:30) in the dining hall.
Sunday: continental breakfast in the dining hall (8:30-9:30), closing ceremony at campfire bowl and move out by noon.

Cost - $125/per person for the whole weekend (includes food and spots in cabins or a place to camp, but not a private cabin all by yourself) or, Camp Loma Mar has just offered us a day rate of $45 if you are just staying for Saturday.

Some Answers to frequently asked questions:
- No pets are allowed at Camp Loma Mar
- Alcohol will not be served. Please bring your own alcohol and a drink container as we cannot walk around camp with cans/bottles. Discretion is the name of the game!
- If you elect to stay in a cabin and let us know some friends you want to stay with, we will try to accommodate all requests. As some cabins have up to 12 beds, you may be staying in a cabin with people that you do not know; whoo hoo - new friends!!
- All cabins have mattresses only; you need a sleeping bag or linens/blankets and a pillow.
- Only 1 cabin is ADA and has a ramp so please let us know if you have any special needs.
- Only 1 cabin has a bathroom “en suite", so all bathrooms are shared in two large bathhouses.
