Moving South Berkeley Forward (MSBF) is a collaborative project between UC Berkeley and the Berkeley Community Gardening Collaborative (BCGC). BCGC’s fiscal sponsor is the
Ecology Center. We are an environmental, social justice project focused on greening the Santa Fe Right of Way (SFROW) in South Berkeley. We, like many other environmental food justice groups, believe that communities, especially communities of color, deserve equitable access to gardens, nutritious produce, and preventative community health resources. We are working to build this community resource through education, mentorship, and hands-on work from youth directly from the community.
MSBF is excited to host a convening this coming May 2022 for local East Bay youth of color environmental groups. The purpose of this gathering is to hold space for community groups specifically working with youth of color aiming to improve the health, environmental awareness, and equitable access to resources for their communities. Our goal is to bring together the larger community of youth activists to share insight on some of the successes and challenges of sustaining youth environmental programs, connect youth to accompished elders in respective fields, and cultivate a shared sense of community rooted in passion for equitable social justice. We welcome donations of any size in support of the MSBF community project, including educational field trips and student activities, as well as its endeavors in connecting local youth groups during the Spring 2022 convening. MSBF is fiscally sponsored by the Ecology Center, a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization, tax ID number 94-1703351. All contributions are tax-deductible in the US.
