Upstander Project is Boston-based nonprofit founded in 2009 by Emmy® Award-winning documentarian Adam Mazo, and educator and curriculum designer, Mishy Lesser. Our documentary films about post-genocide Rwanda (COEXIST) and genocide against Native peoples in the U.S. (DAWNLAND, FIRST LIGHT, and DEAR GEORGINA) were created for mass and educational audiences: with a special focus on middle and high school educators and their students. Upstander Project helps bystanders to become upstanders by challenging indifference to injustice and raising awareness of hurtful societal norms. Our goals: to create more inclusive curricula and schools, public conversations and spaces – and to help educators, institutions and students unlearn bias by promoting understanding, restoration and the repairing of broken relationships.

The Center For Independent Documentary is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax ID #: 04-2738458
