Open Bar, Dinner, and Silent Auction benefiting the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN), an organization founded by Dr. David Fajgenbaum.
About the CDCN:
The CDCN is a global initiative accelerating research and treatment for Castleman disease (CD). We work to achieve this by facilitating collaboration among the global research community, strategically investing in high-impact research, and supporting patients and their loved ones. We have several essential research studies in our pipeline waiting to be launched until we have enough funding. The organization was co-founded in 2012 by Dr. David Fajgenbaum, who was diagnosed with CD in 2010.
About Castleman Disease:
As common as ALS, CD is an inflammatory disorder in which the immune system attacks one's vital organs and can occur in men and women of all ages. One subtype, Multicentric CD, can cause multiple organ failure and is more deadly than lymphoma, because the cause and mechanisms of the disease are so poorly understood. Research is urgently needed.
About Dr. Dave Fajgenbaum:
Dr. Fajgenbaum is the co-founder and Executive Director of the CDCN. Initially diagnosed with an aggressive form of CD (idiopathic multicentric CD) in 2010 when he had his last rites read to him, Dave continues to fight a courageous battle against the disease through numerous months-long hospitalizations, surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy which have kept him alive. Dave is also a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania where he spends his time working to cure CD. He was recently named a member of Forbes Magazine 30 under 30 list for Healthcare and has won numerous awards for his work on the disease. Dave received an MBA from Wharton, an MD from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. in Human Sciences from Georgetown University in 2007, where he was also a Rhodes Scholar finalist and a quarterback on the football team.
